Carly Simon was once engaged to William Donaldson, in the ‘60s, but the engagement did not last. Carly was married to James Taylor and for this marriage last from 1972 to 1983. They had two children: Sarah Taylor, a singer-songwriter and social campaigner; and Ben Simon Taylor, also a musician, and a Socialist activist. Simon and Taylor had two children together.

Carly Simon was born on June 25, 1945, in the Bronx, New York City in United States of America. Her father was Richard Simon, the co-originator of Simon & Schuster. Her mother Andrea Heinemann Simon was a civil rights activist and singer. Carly has two elder sisters, and a younger brother, all of whom were raised in the Riverdale area of the Bronx.

Simon had a really bad stutter at the age of eight; that is when she started singing and songwriting. Suffering from anorexia nervosa Carly enrolled herself at Riverdale Country School and after completing the high school she joined Sarah Lawrence College but could not complete her education as she wanted to venture into music business.

Career

Simon started her career performing with her sister, Lucy in the Simon Sisters, which was a music group that did not last long. They signed with Kapp Records in 1964 and recorded two albums: ‘Meet the Simon Sisters’ which contained the minor hit ‘Winkin’, Blinkin’ and Nod’; their second album was ‘Cuddle bug’ released soon after.

They recorded one more album for Reprise in 1969, The Simon Sisters Sing the Lobster Quadrille and Other Songs for Children, then disbanded when Lucy decided to get married and have children. Simon started a career as a singer, and was recording under Elektra Records in 1970 as a solo artist. The two were an item after she had performed for Stevens at L. A.’s Troubadour club following the release of her first album.

Simon too was enchanted by the place and the couple later bought a house there – after the divorce between Taylor and Simon’s daughter was final.

In the end she purchased two apartments in the West Village, and these two units were merged into one apartment. She was able to dispose of this property in 2013 at a price of $2.3 million.
