Jerry Van Dyke was born on 27th July 1931 in the town of Danville in Illinois to a salesman Loren and his wife Hazel, who was a stenographer. His elder brother is a well-known actor, Dick Van Dyke. The family has English, Dutch, Scottish and Irish heritage.

Career
At the age of 16 Van Dyke left high school in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to start his performing career doing stand-up comedy routines in night clubs, strip joints and other low pay venues. He followed up his year with the Top of the Sixties by joining the travelling singing and dancing company of the US Air Force called the Tops in Blue in the mid-50s performing to troops worldwide. After that, Van Dyke served as a news anchor at WTHI-TV in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Van Dyke’s first extensive TV part was in 1962 on his brother’s TV show “The Dick Van Dyke Show” as Stacey Petrie in addition, in the same year, he was also in an episode of the anthology series “GE True.” From variety shows, he guested on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” “The Andy Williams Show,” “The Garry Moore Show” and “The Judy Garland Show”.
In the 70s Van Dyke returned to his school’s days and did some stand-up comedy. For the entire decade, he worked the circuit of the Playboy Clubs across the nation and headlining in Las Vegas, Milwaukee and Atlantic City.
However, at some point in his career, he engaged in some celebrity commercial endorsements. From among them, he featured in the production of television advertisements for Hardee’s which is a fast food restaurant and was a brand ambassador for Big Lots which is a retail store.
Van Dyke started acting in films in 1963, when he appeared in three of them: He made his movies in the romantic comedy “The Courtship of Eddie’s Father,” the bedroom farce “Palm Springs Weekend” and the western comedy “McLintock!”.
He was somewhat sparing on the big screen after this. He had only one other leading part in his career – a video animation of a Christmas film, “Annabelle’s Wish,” in which he was the voice of Grandpa Charles Baker.
Death
He married Carol Johnson in the year of 1957. They had three children; daughters, Jerri Lynn and Kelly Jean, and son, Ronald. The couple was to divorce in 1974. Three years later, he secured the services of Shirley Ann Jones as his wife until he died.
