In 1956, Richard got in touch with Audrey Robinson with whom he was planning to have a child at the time she was merely sixteen years old. In his autobiography Richard had made several statements about his relationship with Robinson which the latter has refuted. He said that he would take other men such as Buddy Holly to have intercourse with her.

He was also a pianist and composer, who recorded famous songs including “Tutti Frutti” and “Good Golly Miss Molly”, to mention but a few. The tracks included his famous screams and psycho piano stunts. He was usually referred to as the Architect of Rock and Roll.

Today, it is agreed that Little Richard is the forefather who introduced early “Rock n Roll” to the world. In the second half of the decade, Little Richard gave up rock music to perform gospel tunes only, though his first gospel album titled ‘God Is Real,’ was recorded in 1959. Five years later he came back to “rock n roll”.

Early Life

Richard Wayne Penniman was also born on 5th of December 1932 in Macon, Georgia. He was third of total of twelve children born to Leva Mae and Charles Penniman. His father was a church deacon and brick mason who also engaged in the sale of bootlegged moonshine and operated a nightclub known as the Tip in Inn.

Richard was born in the Pleasant Hill section of Macon, Georgia, which he later described as the ‘deepest part of the South’. Little Richard was a small and skinny child, which is why his family nicknamed him ‘Little’.

The family was very active also in some of the churches in the locality. Pentecostal churches in particular were Little Richard’s favorite because of the spirited singing with musicians in the church.

Career

Little Richard was performing some of Tharpe’s songs as he accidentally sang while walking past a dressing room before one of Tharpe’s shows in the Macon city auditorium in the 1940s. She asked him to accompany her on stage to open for her and after the performance, she compensated him.

It is evidenced by the fact that the great experience pushed Richard to become a performer. He dropped out of school after the ninth grade to become an actor with Hudson’s Medicine Show in 1949. He relocated to Houston and began a band known as Tempo Toppers which played in numerous venues in the South.

During the later part of his career, Richard had drink heavily alcoholic beverages and smoked marijuana while during early period he had not tasted anything that contained alcohol he smoked marijuana also. In the 1970s he started abusing drugs and became an addictive user of cocaine.
