Riddick Lamont Bowe is an American professional wrestler, boxer and actor born on August 10, 1967 in Brooklyn, New York where he was the last of thirteen children to Dorothy Bowe. Bow Wow and his family lived in area known as Brownsville a part of Brooklyn which was regarded as one of the roughest ghettos of New York.

A brother Henry succumbed to the AIDS virus and a sister Brenda who was stabbed by robbers in a 1988 attack. Riddick set his amateur boxing record at the age of 17, in the year of 1984. Riddick knocked down James Smith within 4 seconds.

He studied drama in Kingsborough Community College with the aim of performing after boxing and also business administration. He competed in the Seoul Olympics in 1988 and claimed the silver medal and was a four-time winner of the New York Golden Gloves Championship held in the years 1985 to 1988.

Career

Making his professional debut in 1989, Riddick Bowe has been a two-time heavyweight champion. Bowe was to become the first man to win the WBA, WBC, and IBF titles under one roof by defeating the unbeaten former WBA heavyweight champion, Holyfield in 1992.

Later that year he received the honor of Fighter of the Year from both The Ring magazine and the Boxing Writers’ Association of America. He relinquished the WBC title later that year in protest rather than defend it against number one contender Lennox Lewis.

This left the title fragmented until 1999. In 1993 Bowe had the match with Holyfield for the second time and lost these titles for the WBA and for the IBF in what was his career defeat only. In 1995 Bowe was able to win back part of the world heavyweight championship, by defeating Herbie Hide for the WBO belt. He became the first fighter in history to win all four major titles in boxing.

There is the WBA, WBO, WBC and the IBF. He then relinquished the WBO title later in the year to challenge Holyfield for the third time which he did via knockout, the first time the fighter had ever been knocked out.
