Early Life

The birth of Jon Steven Young was scheduled for 11 October 1961 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He later attended high school in Connecticut. In high school football team, a young Steve Young was able to establish himself rather early especially in conversion of rushing plays into touchdowns.

Despite this Young also showed athletic prowess as he also played basketball and baseball for which he was a team captain. Steve Young has been with football all his life and it all started by seeing his father play football at BYU in the early 50s and he too set many records.

Steve Young’s great-great-great grandfather, Brigham Young, is the name source of BYU itself. He planned on going to university and even contemplated going to the University of North Carolina, which pressured young to visit its campus because of his football skills.

This he did not do, and instead he had to join BYU because that had been a tradition in his family. In fact, Young was signed for his running skills from the onset. He made efforts to correct his passing style during this period at college. Gradually, this formed a substantial block of his game and he repeated the record with his 71. 3% passing record.

Perhaps one of his last memories of college football was going for the end zone after the halfback had handed him the ball.

Career

Steve Young commenced his professional football in United States Football League (USFL) during the 1984 season. He took a $40 million initial contract for the Los Angeles Express but agreed to be paid in 40 annual installments because the team was still small, and the amount could not have worked out for them.

Young could have joined the NFL in 1984, however, he aspired to play under the head coach John Hadl and Sid Gilman both of whom were associated with the express then. Steve Young graduated from BYU with a receive a Juris Doctor in 1994 and because of his interest in finance, he was in a good position to begin his business career after football.
