Louis served as a bombardier on B-24 Liberators in the Pacific Island of Funafuti. He was taken prisoner along with Phillips by the Japanese Navy and released at the end of the war in August 1945.
In 1948, he married Cynthia Applewhite and had one daughter Cissy, and one son Luke. Cissy’s mother passed away in 2001. Unfortunately, on July 2, 2014, she also lost her father due to pneumonia at home in Los Angeles.
